Below you will find several audio samples created using a modified version of the PROst N95M equalizer.
The primary difference from the reference version is the use solid-core silver wire with PTFE insulation for all internal signal wiring.
In addition, a few brief comments from listeners regarding the sonic character of this version of the equalizer are provided below.
Ronald Frommann (Mobile Recording):
“The Cu version, however, is noticeably more bass-heavy than the Ag version. What stands out is that the music sounds significantly more alive—very beautiful, actually. Due to the tonal characteristics of the instruments (oboe and harpsichord), it might be a bit too much in the highs, but the additional liveliness is very impressive.”
Wladi Turkewitsch (KMS Mastering):
“Interesting, the high-frequency transients are much more precise, the low frequencies are less cloudy, and the overall sound is more spacious. I have to say, even though I’m not a fan of the audiophile therapy, I was amazed by the difference.”
Technical Setup:
- AD/DA Conversion: RME ADI-2 Pro FS.
- Interconnects: Custom silver cables of my own design.
- Power: The EQ was powered by the stock power supplies.
- Control: Reaper and ADI-2 Remote.
Testing Methodology: I have provided two versions for each processed track. The RME allows for switching between different reference levels; I used +4 dBu and +13 dBu. This allows you to hear how the EQ’s analog signal path reacts to different signal hotness.
All tracks were processed identically. I did not use track-specific settings. The EQ parameters match those declared in the Gearspace “I’m shooting out Mastering EQs…“ thread:
- +1 50Hz shelf
- +1 100Hz low Q
- +1 8200Hz low Q
- +1 10kHz shelf
Syra – Original & Processed: The original file created by Syra, followed by two processed versions related to the Gearspace shootout thread.
Habitación 126 – Original & Processed: The next set of files was provided by Habitación 126 — muchas gracias for the support!
Serginxs – Original & Processed:: A Creative-Groove and Funky-Groove composition by the Ukrainian artist Serhii Chuiko – щиро дякую, друже!
I will likely expand this list over time. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the listening experience, and I would be greatly appreciative of your feedback.
